Estate Olive Oil
In 2002, after an amazing culinary trip through Italy, the Roche family decided to plant a crop most complimentary to the 130 acres of grapes already producing on their property…olives!
Because the Roches did not know the first thing about olive farming, the first order of business was for them to hire one of the most well known Italian Olive Farmers in Napa Valley as a consultant, and as a result they learned they would plant an olive grove unlike any of those yet found in Napa and Sonoma. To best match the rocky soils and consistently warm climate of the Napa and Sonoma Valleys, Tuscan varieties were the chosen olive trees planted throughout both valleys. However, because of the strong marine influence on the Roche’s Southern Sonoma Valley Ranch, they were advised to plant trees of the Genoa variety. So then, in 2003 the Roches planted their olive grove made up of more than 1,200 trees imported from Genoa Italy.
What results each year, after their olive harvest, is an estate single press extra-virgin olive oil that is very delicate on the palate yet exhibits a light spicy finish…very typical of those extra virgin olive oils found in Genoa, Italy.
