Summer in March?
by brendan roche
While we were just in the early planning stages of our spring’s wine club in mid-March, we suddenly found ourselves in summer-like conditions. Typical March temps might get to the 70-degree range in a few rare occasions, but this year we had a week-long spell of 80-90 degree temperatures! Unexpectedly, but enthusiastically, we welcomed a rush of many customers out to our tasting rooms eager to enjoy the unseasonal but beautiful weather. This heat spike lasted only a couple of weeks, but while it did, we sure received a lot of inquiries as to how this would affect the 2026 crop. The short answer is, there was no harm to the 2026 crop. Our winter farming had concluded, and we were more than ready for spring. All the warm weather did was force us to just stop, have a glass of wine, enjoy and embrace the climatic event and watch our vines grow and enjoy this early-season warmth. That fun was short-lived though, and now, our normal spring weather has returned, and it is business as usual in our tasting rooms, cellar, and out in the vineyard. The heat wave was fun while it lasted, but it’s back to work for everyone here!
On the subject of a heat wave, we have a perfect new wine to pair with the next heat wave coming to your neighborhood. It is our 2024 Pinot Noir Blanc. A new wine, proposed and made by our Assistant Winemaker, Cassie Estes, has been an instant hit at our tasting rooms! A pinot noir that I call “dangerously drinkable” was harvested, pressed, and fermented without skins, and bottled quickly to showcase its fresh fruit and summer-approachable character. Enjoy chilled, with any spring or summer related activity, it will be sure to be a crowd pleaser wherever it is served.
We hope you enjoy all the wines included in your club package this spring and we look forward to seeing you at the winery soon for our upcoming Spring Fling or other activities we have lined up this spring and summer!
